In 1960, Dr. Scott Kennedy accompanied his physician parents, Drs. Pat and Marian Kennedy, to the Arabian Gulf. They came from the US to Al Ain, in what would become part of the UAE, to open the young nation’s first modern medical clinic and provide much-needed care.
Sixty years later, tens of thousands of babies have been born at Kanad Hospital (formerly known as Oasis Hospital), including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Kanad Hospital has grown from its humble beginnings as a simple palm frond hut, where consultations with patients took place on the sand floor, to a sophisticated medical center that now serves over 500,000 people each year.
The day Sheikh Mohammed was born was especially memorable for members of the Kennedy family, including Scott, who was just a young boy at the time. Listen to him share his story about that moment, and his family’s deep friendship with Emiratis.
