Teamwork truly does make the dream work. In 2013, the students and faculty at Marie Reed Elementary School received an extraordinary gift from an unexpected friend: a new, state-of-the-art turf soccer field next to the school in the heart of Washington, DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood. The existing field had fallen into a state of disrepair and was a blight on the community.
Phallon Lattimore, a former Marie Reed administrator, worked with the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC and local soccer organizations to develop the new field, and create a safe place for students to play and for the community to come together.
When the new field was dedicated later that year, its positive impact on the community was clear – and obvious from the smiles of hundreds of schoolchildren. Today, the field doesn’t just serve kids at Marie Reed Elementary School, but is a centerpiece of the diverse Adams Morgan neighborhood, and a gathering place for athletic leagues, cultural events and other festivals.
